Corporal Pius Yingling was born in either Silver Run or Adams County, Pennsylvania on December 28, 1844. He enlisted in Frederick, Maryland on March 8, 1865 and was mustered into federal service the same day as a Private
with Company F, Third Maryland Potomac Home Brigade Infantry. Shortly after, he was promoted to Corporal and was honorably discharged along with his company on May 29, 1865. Returning from the war, Yingling worked as a carpenter in Uniontown, Maryland before settling in Westminster and working as a butcher. He married his wife Annie on January 16, 1871. The couple lived on Pennsylvania Avenue in Westminster before moving to Liberty Street, where Yingling lived until his death on August 1, 1926.
