Pvt. Hugh B. Speir, Jr. gives life in Germany
Pvt. Hugh Barnette Speir, Jr., son of Major H. B. and Mrs. Mary Dillard Speir, Westminster, was killed in action in Germany on March 26, 1945, according to a telegram from the War Department at Washington, on Tuesday. Speir, who is aged 21 years, is a graduate of the Westminster High School, class of 1941, of which he was president. He attended Western Maryland College until he entered service on March 11, 1943, and went overseas on January 1, 1945. He was active in Boy Scout activities and was a member of Ascension
Protestant Episcopal Church. Major Speir, who is a member of the Strategic Bombing Survey, and
on duty in Europe, was graduate manager of athletics and professor of Physical Education at Western Maryland College before entering service. At eleven o'clock Sunday morning an appropriate service will be held in Ascension Church. Times 4/20/45
