Private George E. Yingling was born in Hanover, Pennsylvania on July 6, 1836. He volunteered for a three-year period with Company G of the 87th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on October 21, 1862. He was mustered into service at New Creek, Pennsylvania on December 31, 1862. He mustered out on June 29, 1865 at the end of the war. Yingling married his first wife Mary on October 6, 1866, and the couple had seven children: Mary, John, Nellie, Horace, Emily, Faith, and George. After Mary’s death, Yingling married his second wife Annie in 1896 and the couple had three children: William, Anna, and Lewis. Working as a coach trimmer, most likely for the Herr Brothers Carriage Works, Yingling lived at 67 Liberty Street until his death on April 1, 1906.
