Private David Keener Shriver was born in Carroll County in 1845. He enlisted in Co I, 17th Pennsylvania Reserves on August 21, 1863 at Alexandria, Virginia and was mustered in on the same day. He was captured on May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness and survived imprisonment at Andersonville, Georgia. Following his release at the end of the war, Shriver returned to Carroll County and married Clementine Martha Snader Shriver on April 27, 1868. The couple produced ten children: Harry, Anna, Mary, Maud, Carrie, Alice, Edith, David, Edward, and Howell. Shriver worked as a farmer and then became an agricultural inspection agent before becoming a traveling salesman. The family was living in New Windsor in 1870, in Union Bridge in 1880 but had relocated to 31 East Green Street in Westminster by 1900. Private Shriver died in 1906.
