Captain Charles N. Kuhn was born on March 11, 1837. He entered service as a Second Lieutenant in Company A, Sixth Maryland Infantry on August 12, 1862 at Camp Hoffman, Baltimore, Maryland. Promoted to First Lieutenant on September 8, 1862, Kuhn was wounded in action at the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia on October 19, 1864 by a cannon shot to the left anterior pelvis, rendering him unfit for duty. Promoted for bravery to Captain of Company C on November 17, 1864, he was discharged for disability on March 17, 1865, just before the war’s end. Following the war, he worked as a carpenter and later as an inspector for the Baltimore Customs house and married Estelle Wampler Kuhn on December 9, 1890. Living on Court Street in Westminster, Kuhn was a member of both the Masons and the Grand Army of the Republic Burns Post No. 13. Captain Kuhn died on February 24, 1905.
