Born in the Turkish Dardanelles and married Helen Anthony Haritos in 1911. Stanley refused servie in the Turkish Army and fled to America leaving Helen and their son, Louis, in Turkey for 11 years. Finally in 1921, Helen and Louis came to America and the family settled in Westminster where Stanley worked at Westminster Shoe Shine. This is when they formally changed their surname from Chakou to Sharkey. After Stanley's business went bankrupt during the Depression he taught his sons to hunt and fish to keep food on the table. He also worked at the American restaurant. After 7 years of saving money and with $75, they opend the Stonehouse Grill at 12 Liberty St. Stanley also worked at the Centre Restaurant with his son, Louis S. Sharkey.
