Memorial Page of Nelson Beaver
Born in Carroll County in 1840, Private Nelson Beaver entered service in the Union Army late in the Civil War, enlisting in Company A of the Third Maryland Infantry on June 24, 1864 at Frederick, Maryland and was officially mustered in on July 28. Although officially serving as an infantryman, Beaver worked as a bridge pioneer, building and repairing bridges through much of his service time. He was mustered out at the war’s end on July 31, 1865 and settled in Westminster, marrying Annie M. Stewart Beaver on April 11, 1877. Their union produced three children, Amanda, Nettie, and Francis. Having been a farmer prior to the war, Beaver returned to farming and worked as a farmer until his death in 1916.
