Memorial Page of Lee McElroy
Private Lee McElroy was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania around 1837. He enlisted in the Union army on August 25, 1862 at Monocacy Junction, Maryland, serving in Company B, First Maryland Infantry Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade, known later as the 13th Maryland Infantry Regiment. By September, 1864 McElroy was sick in the hospital at Sandy Hook, Maryland. By March 1865 he was on detached duty at the hospital and presumably was discharged from the hospital at war’s end. Following the war, Private McElroy lived in Westminster and worked as a painter. He died on August 18, 1882 and was provided a military headstone by the U.S. Government.
