Private Israel Simonson was born in 1828 in Nova Scotia. He enlisted in the Third Independent Battery Minnesota Light Artillery on June 2, 1864 and was discharged September 9, 1865. Following the war he married Martha Simonson, and the couple had one son, Hashabiah Simonson. Simonson worked as a carpenter and died on April 15, 1893. His grave is marked with a government supplied veteran’s headstone.
