First Lieutenant George W. Shreeve was born in Frederick County in 1838. By 1863 Shreeve had made his way to Indiana and is listed in the draft registration records there for June 1863. Mustered in on August 10, 1863 at Union City, Indiana, Shreeve joined Company B, Seventh Indiana Cavalry Regiment, fighting in the western theater of the war. He was mustered out on February 1866 at Austin, Texas, returning after the war to live in Indiana. He married Almira Tinney Shreeve on March 16, 1880, and the couple had one child, Mary. Shreeve lived in Anderson, Indiana and worked as a clerk until his retirement. In his later years, Shreeve made his home with his daughter in Buffalo, New York, spending much time in the summers in Buffalo and his winters in Florida, where he died on June 27, 1927. His remains were brought to Westminster and interred in Historic Westminster Cemetery with military honors, including a government-provided head stone.
