Private Charles Durbin was born on October 29, 1846. A laborer and cattle driver, he enlisted in the Union Army on February 28, 1864 at Westminster, Maryland. He served in Company H, of the First Maryland Potomac Home Brigade, also known as Cole's Cavalry. Durbin was discharged on July 28, 1865 in Baltimore, following the end of the war. Private Durbin was struck with paralysis on June 30, 1895 at New Windsor, Maryland and was admitted to the National Soldiers' Home in Hampton, Virginia on November 16, 1906. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage on March 17, 1907.
